Council Member Tiffany Cabán Commends NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch for Cutting the NYPD Propaganda Budget

In response to Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch cutting the bloated NYPD press budget in half, New York City Council Member Tiffany Cabán released the following statement: 

“I commend Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch for cutting the NYPD’s propaganda team in half. I hope to see that cut even further. An 87-person propaganda unit does not make New Yorkers safer. 
I also urge Commissioner Tisch to continue to follow the data and abandon the failed broken windows policing she has said she plans to prioritize. 
Unlike violent and discriminatory broken windows policing, discovery and bail reform are victories for safety and justice. Discovery and bail reform protect New Yorkers from human rights abuses, unjust imprisonment and cruel failures of our criminal legal system. Commissioner Tisch must abandon her crusade to roll back these critical reforms and instead continue rooting out corruption, bloat, and violence at the NYPD. ”
